About this course
6-Week Intermediate handbuilding explores slab building techniques, guiding students from soft slab construction to more complex, architectural forms. Students will learn to alter shapes and add texture, progressing to lidded vessels and structured vases using both soft and stiff slabs. Emphasis is placed on creativity—encouraging unique, "funkified" designs—while mastering construction methods like lidded vessels. The final weeks focus on surface embellishments and more advanced glazing applications. Brief breakdown of the course: Week 1 - Complex forms using templates and soft slabs Week 2 - Lidded vessel with inset lid styles with soft slabs Week 3 - Rectangular vase with stiff slabs Week 4 - Complex form with an outie lid style Week 5 - Embellishing surfaces and finishing up work Week 6 - Practical glazing 2.0. Glazing different/odd shapes. Glaze Potluck Party!
